Tax Representation, Planning, and Preparation

Dear Prospective Client,

For over twenty years, I have represented hundreds of individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations with unfiled returns and outstanding liabilities before the Internal Revenue Service and the New Jersey Division of Taxation. My representation includes the preparation of delinquent tax returns and meetings with representatives of the Collection, Special Procedures and Appeals Divisions of the taxing authorities. My clients' delinquent returns and unpaid taxes often result from medical problems, divorces, business failures, bankruptcies or loss of employment. Prior to analyzing any financial information, I attempt to understand the underlying causes of the client's situation, the current difficulties facing the client, and the client's immediate and future objectives. I have also learned that there rarely is a quick fix or cookie cutter approach to resolving a liability. Depending on the client's specific situation, I develop a customized approach. For example, an offer-in-compromise may be in the best interest of one client while having a liability classified as "currently uncollectible" may be in the best interest of another client.

Taxpayers in New Jersey often face greater problems than taxpayers in many other states when dealing with the Collection Division of the IRS. The reason for this is the IRS collection guidelines provide a standard allowance for living expenses while the cost of living in New Jersey substantially exceeds the national average. Also, the maximum housing allowance is based on the average cost of housing in the county of residence. This creates some very serious issues in New Jersey as the cost of housing varies widely within a given county.

In order to provide clients with the personal attention needed to resolve their individual or business tax liability, I personally work directly with every client. I find that it is usually necessary to meet with each client in person on a continuing basis until the problem is satisfactorily resolved. I also find meeting directly with representatives of the Collection and Appeals Divisions very helpful. There have been many occasions where a client's previous representative was unable to resolve a problem through numerous telephone conversations and correspondence and I successfully resolved the matter through a face-to-face meeting.

I also attempt to work closely with my clients' accountants, attorneys, mortgage brokers and financial consultants. Each of these professionals provides unique insight, perspective and expertise helpful in resolving a client's tax problems.

If you are a resident or business located in New Jersey with a federal or state tax liability, please contact me at 908-355-3100.
